摘要: Abstract Inorganic fertilizer was applied to two state-owned lakes in northern Michigan, one a 4.3-acre trout lake and the other 27.5-acre warm-water lake. Two nearby were kept under observation as controls. Fertilizer brought about plankton-algae bloom first summer produced very heavy growth of filamentous algae second summer. The responded much less added nutrients; reading Secchi disk at no time than 8.2 feet. No appreciable oxygen depletion occurred during winter following season fertilization. Chemical analysis February showed severe depletion, with levels 1 p.p.m. all depths. An almost complete winterkill both fertilized lakes. control
