摘要: Aim: Intramedullary spinal cord tumors (IMSCT) are rare neoplasms of central nervous system but require proper evaluation and management to ensure a good outcome. This study was carried out evaluate the functional outcome IMSCT following surgery decipher factors affecting optimal these cases. Materials Methods: A prospective clinical at tertiary care center from 2003 2012. Forty three patients with intramedullary diagnosed on magnetic resonance imaging were included. Their details, neurological findings demographic data recorded. The then subjected adjuvant radiotherapy. followedup clinically radiologically, all parameters examined Results: Sensory motor impairment present preoperatively in majority (n = 39 n 38, 90.7% 88.4%, respectively). Gross total excision performed 30 cases (69.76%). most common histological diagnosis ependymoma 21, 48.8%). Postoperatively 32 (74.4%) McCormick Grade I or II improving 13 (30.2%) preoperatively. Fifteen 17 Medical Research Council (MRC) III 10 12 MRC IV improved. No mortality recorded during entire period follow-up (mean: 22, range: 3-96 months). Eight (18.6%) had recurrence till last visit. Conclusions: Preoperative grade important predictor tumor best surgical modality improve event free survival. High-grade higher rates no effect
