摘要: Non-invasive genetic sampling is increasingly being used for monitoring mammalian carnivore populations. However, environmental conditions in the tropics challenge researchers' ability to collect samples. We present results of a preliminary study on feasibility using scent-baited hair traps population carnivores Peninsular Malaysia. Stations were baited either fatty acid scent or male cologne applied traps. Video camera also monitor reactions stations. recorded 19 visits by seven species over 764 trap nights. Cheek-rubbing and scent-marking behaviour was only single individuals two species: Malayan tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni) clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa). This suggests that hold some promise ecological issues requiring DNA analysis Additional research needed develop its full potential conservation large carnivores.
