摘要: Colon cancer kills over 600,000 people annually worldwide. Unfortunately, current colon prevention strategies like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., aspirin) can lead to serious adverse side effects such as intestinal bleeding. However, fruit and vegetable consumption has been associated with up a 40% decrease in risk. The benefits of diet high fruits vegetables could be partly attributed the bioactive components fiber, resistant starch polyphenolics present them. Given that incidence is expected rise by about 70% next two decades, there critical need develop staple foods fight cancer. We recently reported colored flesh potatoes contain both polyphenols target stem cells. Thus, an opportunity food crop approach targeting growing epidemic globally.
