摘要: Within a context of declining participation Year 12 students in higher education, the processes whereby young people make transition from high school to university or college advanced education was examined. A social psychological model academic attainment which linked origins experiences, perceptions others’ support, self-assessment, and aspirations results guided analysis. Access conditioned by class, sex, geographical location, effects were mediated type attended, perceived encouragement parents, teachers, peers, views own ability, career orientations, ultimately achievement. The process different for boys girls. While father high-prestige job good predictor boys, among girls those with fathers low-prestige jobs more likely be tertiary entrants.
