摘要: After the laboratory synthesis of gyplure (Jacobson 1960, Jacobson and Jones 1962), a sex attraclant for male gypsy moth, Porthetria dispar (L.), its establishment as valuable survey tool delineating areas infestation this destructive insect 1962a, 1962b), possibility using to control moth was investigated. In 1961, high concentrations both liquid granular formulations commercially piepared were applied by aircraft over an infested 400-acre island in Lake Winnepesaukee, New Hampshire, effort prevent moths from locating successfully mating with females (Burgess 1964). Field observations revealed that particular lot had no effect on behavior. Subsequent investigations showed ineffectiveness due masking inactive trans form gyplure, possibly related byproducts, activity cis 1963). Accordingly, we developed chromatographic methods (Jones 1964) determining content -gyplure samples prepared pilot plant, well separating isomer contaminants small scale.
