Voluntary environmental initiatives and sustainable industry

摘要: Voluntary environmental initiatives are private or public efforts to improve corporate performance beyond existing legal requirements. have become an important element in the mix of policies and strategies for managing industrial impacts on environment, but considerable uncertainty exists concerning effectiveness, efficiency fairness voluntary programs relative other policy instruments. This paper considers potential role transition toward more sustainable systems, light these criteria. Several pervasive problems hindered evaluation their effectiveness so far including poorly specified objectives, inadequate data results baselines comparison. Economic models indicate that different circumstances, approaches may increase decrease economic efficiency. However, conditions remain understood.
