摘要: The composition and abundance of functional feeding groups the macroinvertebrate communities were investigated along Chubut River in Patagonian Precordillera Plateau, Argentina. (>1000 km) is largest river area hydrological regime modified lower section by an artificial reservoir (Florentino Ameghino Dam). Quantitative benthic samples collected at 13 sites upper, middle sections basin. Sites visited four times during 2004 physicochemical parameters, chlorophyll a particulate organic matter (POM) assessed. In terms relative abundance, collector-gatherers scrapers/grazers predominant most sites. Shredders not abundant upper practically absent basin Collector filterers that comprised more than 25 % pre-regulated site right below dam. POM biomass decreased significantly with distance from source showed marked increase reservoir. We conclude although there was distinct headwaters fauna River, sequential downstream changes species composition, (apart shredders) represented down whole length river. Finally, usefulness biotic indices metrics relation main environmental features discussed.
