French speaking athletes’ experience and perception regarding the whereabouts reporting system and therapeutic use exemptions

摘要: Abstract The introduction of two anti-doping measures by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) directly affects athletes lives: obligatory whereabouts reporting with Administration and Management System (ADAMS), recorded applications for Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). French-speaking elite ( N  = 69) from France, Belgium Switzerland responded to a web-based questionnaire about their perceptions experiences under these measures. results showed strong ambivalence towards system. Though 94% considered it necessary, accepted as part an athlete's duties, 34% that infringed too much on private life, 54% felt reduced pleasure being athlete, 74% be surveillance, found time-consuming, 57% encountered technical hurdles, 58% perceived its application between different countries sports unequal unfair. Many did not like testing procedures more than half causes anxiety. Trust in system's capacity detect doping was partial (83% system trusted it, 60% it). Concerning management TUEs, 49% had low trust authorities, 47% suspected abuse fellow 46% refrained medically justified treatment. Our findings suggest considerable dissatisfaction TUE among athletes. We conclude there is need improve above aspects order increase athletes’ satisfaction adherence WADA's policies.
