摘要: Depth of sowing can affect early crop establishment due to poor seedling emergence. A glasshouse study was conducted investigate the effects depths (1.5, 3.5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 mm) on emergence and development two each African indigenous (Amaranthus hybridus & Cleome gynandra) exotic (Spinacia oleracea Brassica napus) leafy vegetables. split plot design with four replicates used. Exotic vegetables had significantly higher (p 5 their more adversely affected by soil strength at this depth. It is concluded that seeds should be sown shallower (1-5 in order ensure rapid seedlings if directly into soil. (T.M. Seeiso S.A. Materechera.
