Your move: The effect of chess on mathematics test scores

摘要: We analyse the effect of substituting a weekly mathematics lesson in primary school grades 1-3 with based on chess instruction. use data from City Aarhus Denmark, combining test score comprehensive set obtained administrative registers. two different methodological approaches to identify and estimate treatment effects we tend find positive effects, indicating that knowledge acquired through play can be transferred domain mathematics. also larger impacts for unhappy children who are bored school, perhaps because instruction facilitates learning by providing an alternative approach these children. The results encouraging suggest may important effective tool improving mathematical capacity young students.
