摘要: A 2 × single-mode thermo-optic waveguide switch fabricated on a glass substrate is reported. The device uses zero-gap directional-coupler configuration with heater electrode to increase the index of refraction by use effect. With an interaction length 6 mm and using 0.63-μm He–Ne laser light, experiences complete switchover light from straight-through channel crossed at electrical drive power 0.25 W under quasi-steady-state condition 0.67 pulsed 800 μs in pulse width. response independent polarization insensitive ambient temperature. Transient thermal analysis carried out two-dimensional transient temperature solution derived previously [IEEE Trans. Components Hybrids Manuf. Technol. 13, 980 (1990)]. equation established relate optical intensity rise waveguide. deduced responses based calculated agree extremely well measured responses, thus verifying thermal-analysis method. We also confirm fundamental principle directional coupler find that will be useful component future fiber-optic integrated-optic systems.
