The effect of age on balancing behavior: complexity analysis of mediolateral force trajectories.

摘要: Objective: We quantified, via complexity analysis, the postural stability of healthy people from a wide age range. Approach: Thirty-five aged 18–72 performed three tasks while balancing on one foot force plate: standard task, mental task (balancing answering basic arithmetic questions), and knot-tying tying two knots in piece ribbon). Mediolateral trajectories were analyzed to determine control strategy Hurst exponents, Lyapunov Kolmogorov complexity, root mean square, phase-space plots. Main results: found increased pattern repetition with age, as evidenced by emergence double attractor plots increase exponents approximately 0.3 0.8. Significance: As they tend develop strong feed-forward strategies for balancing, lose micro movements intrinsic young age.
