摘要: Perinatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is an important cause of brain injury in the newborn and can result devastating consequences. The principle mechanisms underlying neurological damage HIE resulting from hypoxemia and/or ischemia deprivation glucose oxygen supply which energy failure. A consequent reperfusion often deteriorates metabolism by increasing oxidative stress damage. Selenium a constituent antioxidant enzyme Glutathione peroxidase vital to defense. This study aimed measure serum selenium levels full term neonates with their mothers correlate between them severity HIE. included 60 admitted NICU Minia university hospital during period January 2014 February 2015. Twenty apparently healthy selected as control group. After history taking careful clinical examination; all were subjected to: Complete blood count, renal liver function tests electrolytes. Serum was measured for within 48 h life using atomic flame spectrophotometer method. Neonates had significant lower than normal (p = 0.001**) lowest severe but there no differences patients controls regards maternal levels. Significant negative correlations base excess present, while positive present Apgar score pH. There urea or creatinine level not dependent on negatively correlated
