摘要: Background The adequacy of communication and knowledge donors physicians regarding iron needs the relationship between hemoglobin (Hb) stores require evaluation to address donor deficiency. Study Design Methods A prospective cohort study was performed on 550 successful 50 deferred for low Hb (<125 g/L repeat fingerstick). Donors participated in an on-clinic interview had serum ferritin measured. They were mailed their results recontacted follow-up. Results Most are unaware possible health impacts donation do not discuss with physician. In donors, mean levels 37 131 μg/L first-time reactivated (no 2 years) females males 19 29 μg/L frequent males, respectively (p < 0.0001), infrequent having intermediate results. Mean 12 μg/L Hb. Twenty 22 failing initial testing passing below 25 μg/L. On follow-up, 63 164 (38%) taking supplements months postdonation. Conclusion Iron deficiency is frequent, particularly female donors. A fail followed by a pass likely be due borderline anemia. need more aware associated blood appropriate treatment stores.
