摘要: In their own practices and in consultation, requests to psychiatrists evaluate treat sleep disorders the elderly are common. The five million elders this country receive 35%-40% of sedative-hypnotics prescribed, despite fact that they represent only 12% population. Since disturbances usually secondary medical, psychiatric, pharmacologic, or environmental causes, should a thorough evaluation differential diagnostic approach. Before prescribing sedative-hypnotic, one consider nonpharmacologic interventions education about normal changes due aging. As foundation for judicious sedative-hypnotics, pharmacokinetic associated with aging discussed.
