摘要: Pisum sativum agglutinin has been shown to act as a feeding inhibitor for various insect pests belonging different orders: Lepidoptera, Coleoptera and Hemiptera. In the present study, its insecticidal activity was assessed through monitoring growth development of dipteran pest Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillett) (Diptera: Tephritidae). Pea lectin, P. sativum (PSA) purified by single step affinity chromatography on Sephadex G-100 purification monitored hemagglutination SDS-PAGE. Insect assays were conducted determine effect pea lectin against first second instar larvae melon fruit fly B. cucurbitae. Lectin incorporated in an artificial diet at varied range concentrations, 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200 400 μg/mL. The showed highly significant antimetabolic effects both instars. Time taken pupation well percentage adult emergence adversely affected. three hydrolase enzymes (esterases, acid alkaline phosphatases), five oxidoreductases (superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, O-demethylase) one group transfer enzyme (glutathione-S-transferases) also fed treated 100 μg/mL concentration. significantly deleteriously influenced all these exposure intervals.
