摘要: Historical and enduring maternal health inequities injustices continue to grow in Aotearoa New Zealand, despite attempts address the problem. Pregnancy increases vulnerability poverty through a variety of mechanisms. This project qualitatively analysed an open survey response from midwives about their experiences providing maternity care women living with social disadvantage. We used structural violence lens examine effects disadvantage on pregnant women. The analysis midwives’ narratives exposed three mechanisms by which were violence, these included disempowerment, inequitable risk neoliberal system. Women structurally disempowered reduced access agency, lack opportunities inadequate meeting basic human needs. Disadvantage exacerbated risks inequitably increasing barriers care, exacerbating impact adverse life circumstances causing chronic stress. Lastly, system emphasised individual responsibility that perpetuated inequities. Despite stated aim equitable for all policy documents, current structure continues perpetuate systemic
