A new morphologically cryptic species of forest frog (genus Platymantis ) from New Britain Island, Bismarck Archipelago

摘要: We describe a new species of forest frog in the genus Platymantis from New Britain Island, Bismark Archipelago, Papua Guinea. The is morphologically cryptic form that has masqueraded for almost four decades under name P. schmidti (formerly papuensis schmidti, Brown & Tyler, 1968). microsympatric with geographically widespread at two known localities. diagnose on basis its distinctive advertisement call and slight but consistent differences body size proportions. Calling males appear to prefer more elevated perches than do may exhibit greater extent sexual dimorphism.
