摘要: The genera Corynanthe and Pausinystalia are an easily recognizable group within the tribe Coptosapelteae because corolla lobes provided with a distinct spherical, club-shaped or linear appendage. In past delimitation of species 1–3 in literature has been problematical. A short revision is undertaken, based mainly on study Central African herbarium specimens. morphological features reviewed documented. Stipules were commonly found to have interlocking vernation; this type ptyxis not yet reported from Rubiaceae. Characters their states coded for numerical phenetic cladistic analysis relationships among species. Our formal analyses corroborate view that two can be recognized, (characterized by exserted style anthers, undivided stigma loculicidal capsule; three species) anthers included tube, bilobed predominantly septicidal five species). entire probably evolved Corynanthe-like ancestor; drastic shift flower biology, viz. loss secondary pollen presentation, correlated adaptations another pollinator which may caused divergence between genera. These show characteristic distribution pattern strict rain forest groups Africa, except they missing lowland forests Zaire Basin. concentrated around known refugia quaternary glaciation: only C. pachyceras distributed almost whole area. taxonomic treatment (with key given; continent also included. examination isotypes forgotten names described Berlin school revealed new synonyms. angolensis Cabinda (Angola) Wernham proved synonymous P. macroceras. few other changes made. ituriense De Wild, reduced subspecies lane-poolei (Hutch.) Hutch, ex Lane-Poole; brachylhyrsum (K. Schum.) W. Brandt recognized again (instead being form macroceras (K Pierre Beille), talbotii maintained Pausinystalia, transferred Coiynanthe, as recently suggested.
