摘要: Investigator-administered nicotine alters neurotensin and substance P levels in Sprague-Dawley rats. This finding suggested a role of the dopamine-related endogenous neuropeptides addiction. We sought to extend this observation by determining responses systems (assessed using radioimmunoassay) male female rats following self-administration (SA). Male were trained self-administer nicotine, or receive saline infusions yoked nicotine-administering rat during daily sessions (1-h; 21 days). Brains extracted 3 h after last SA session. Nicotine increased tissue males anterior posterior caudate, globus pallidus, frontal cortex, nucleus accumbens core shell, ventral tegmental area. also females but not There fewer sex differences observed systems. both A difference was core, where males, yet decreased females. The regulation may play susceptibility dependence males. Synapse 70:336-346, 2016. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
