摘要: The present work is a trial to compare effect of short and long term administrations sucrose as natural widely used sweetener, aspartame synthetic non-caloric sweetener stevia novel on rats' brain hippocampus. This was achieved using 64 male albino rats. Rats were divided into four groups. first group served control receiving distilled water. second represented the 10% solution (weight /volume). third (75 mg/kg body weight /day).The fourth received (40 weight/day).Animals different experimental treatments by oral gavage they dissected after duration 30 days 90 days. Histological investigation hippocampal sections hippocampus revealed neuronal degeneration with pyknotic nuclei, dilatation congestion in blood vessels spongiform changes neuropil both treatments. On other hand, treatment rats showed near normal pattern granular neuropil. Histochemical, stained Bromophenol blue stain tissue recorded significant decrease protein content groups respectively compared Staining treated or Congo red cellular homogenous pink deposits amyloid throughout tissue. decreased observed limited few depositions controls. In conclusion, Stevia, non-calorific better alternative because has potential assist individuals regulating their weights without any recognized side effects besides its health benefits antioxidant.
