摘要: Management of overabundant wildlife populations using contraceptives is being considered with increasing frequency in many localities. A wide array effective needed to meet a variety management objectives. Therefore, we evaluated the synthetic progestin norgestomet for its efficacy and minimum dose free-ranging white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). We two doses implants (14 42 mg) at site southern Connecticut during 1992–1995. Four (14, 21, 28, were tested northern Indiana 1993–1996. The effectiveness preventing pregnancy was similar mg (92%), 28 (100%), 21 (100%) doses. There significant decline 14 (48%) dose. It appears that approximately lowest consistently prevents reproduction adult various sizes ages. Norgestomet show promise as highly contraceptive agent safe treated animals secondary consumers simple deliver remotely. Zoo Biol 16:31–37, 1997. © 1997 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
