摘要: Two areas of submarine slides are described; one off North-west Africa and another eastern North America. The African slide consists a 18,000 km2 scar with 30,000 area deposits. total displaced volume is the order 1100 km3. bounded on its southern sides by 10 to 100 m scarps. failure occurred over slope about 1° 1.5° mass flows moved slopes as gentle 0.1°. available evidence suggests that zone represents an long term instability individual failures related tectonics associated fracture zone. In contrast, Maryland around flanks series old channels. Distinct glide planes correlated subbottom reflectors. Possible triggering mechanisms include earthquakes undercutting turbidity currents.
