摘要: Abstract Purpose To determine if improving intensive care unit (ICU) environment would enhance sleep quality, assessed by polysomnography (PSG), in critically ill mechanically ventilated patients. Materials and methods Randomized controlled trial, crossover design. The night intervention "quiet routine" protocol was directed toward ICU between 10pm 6am. Noise levels during control nights were recorded. Patients on mechanical ventilation able to give consent eligible for the study. We monitored PSG.The standard (American Association of Sleep Medicine) scoring criteria insufficient assessment polysomnograms. Modified classification patients, suggested Watson et al. ( Crit Care Med 2013;41:1958-1967), used. Results Sound level analysis showed insignificant effect noise reduction P =.3). PSGs revealed that only 53% patients had identifiable characteristics normal sleep, whereas 47% pathologic patterns. Conclusions Characteristics absent many PSG recordings these not further reduce already existing low did find any association environmental presence PSG.
