摘要: The malarial parasite Plasmodium vivax causes disease in humans, including chronic infections and recurrent relapses, but the course of infection is rarely fatal1,2, unlike that caused by falciparum. To investigate differences pathogenicity between P. falciparum, we have compared the subtelomeric domains DNA these parasites. In P. falciparum, subtelomeric are conserved contain ordered arrays members multigene families, such as var3,4,5, rif6,7 stevor8, encoding virulence determinants cytoadhesion antigenic variation. Here identify, through analysis a continuous 155,711-base-pair sequence chromosome end, family called vir, which specific to vivax. vir genes present at about 600–1,000 copies per haploid genome encode proteins immunovariant natural infections, indicating they may functional role establishing
