摘要: The 2008 Democratic presidential primary provides a unique opportunity to examine how community structure is related intra-party electoral outcomes. Because the contest between Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton remained competitive until very end, we are able analyze voting outcomes for more than 2,300 U.S. counties where votes were cast before ultimate winner had been determined. was also noteworthy because seeking become nation's first African American President, while hoped be woman president. competition, response that candidates received from voters as they campaigned across country, revealed interesting dynamics pertaining race, class, gender. We argue appealed constituencies on different sides of cultural divide among voters, rooted in occupational segregation. Our results show segregation by especially sex, outcomes, with gaining his strongest support most integrated contexts weakest segregated contexts.
