摘要: John Nottingham has been widely credited with the first accurate description of keratoconus in his treatise on conical cornea, published 1854. Contained within 270-page are accounts and theories postulated by authors such as Scarpa, von Carion, Ammon, Mackenzie, synthesized a containing own original observations. Nottingham's work delves deeply into keratoconus, coverage reminiscent modern review, albeit far less succinct manner. He extensively describes epidemiology, clinical presentation, underlying cause, treatment keratoconus. However, concepts put forth limited largely contemporary lack understanding anatomy physiology eye, observations, technological limitations. postulates similar algorithm to that used today; optical devices being management option choice mild stages surgery last resort. None surgical methods discussed era, but he does make reference possible efficacy corneal transplantation. was over 160 years ago, yet ideas observations surprisingly accurate. It is very person publish an accurate, comprehensive
