摘要: Intheliterature, fewstudiesanalyzetheeffectof GH therapyon height, preferringa more indirectapproach, where factors influencing the total pubertal and pre-puber- tal growth in GH-deficient patients are evaluated sub- sequently used to estimate overall effect at end of therapy; unfortunately, this approach does not quantify real gain treated patients. Using a non-para- metric Empirical Bayes approach, our study analyzes growthresponsetoGHtreatmentinahomogeneouscohort 317 with pituitary deficiency who were en- rolled during their pre-pubertal stage Piedmont Registry (Italy), between January 2000-October 2008, haveatleast2yroffollow-up.Toestimatethegrowthcurve for males females, non-parametric regression model wasfitted, applyingEmpiricalBayestechniques.Avalidation ofthemodelwasalsoperformed.Improvementwasevident inbothgenders, sincebothmalesandfemalesmeangrowth curve, which started below 3rd percentile begin- ning therapy, reached 10th Tan- nercurveattheendofobservation(17yroldformalesand 14 yr old females); estimation procedure achieved goodprecision.Themethodologicalapproachallowsforfit- tingamodelabletoevaluatelongitudinallytheresponseto treatment, by means estimating curve, eveninpresenceofsparseinformationaboutchildren heights.
