摘要: Population density presumably serves as a negative feedback by modulating growth and reproduction. However, such density-dependent mechanisms have not been examined in most commercially exploited populations. In the present study, we evaluated how population might affect reproductive pattern of harvested sea urchin Heliocidaris crassispina at three sites with different densities Hong Kong (Cape d’Aguilar, Sheung Sze Wan Nine Pins). Monthly measurements gonad index histological observations showed that populations exhibited similar seasonal pattern, initiation gametogenesis winter (November) maturation late (March). Spawning took place over 8 months from March to October Kong, lasted considerably longer than H. more temperate regions. The was affected density, urchins Cape d’Aguilar (the higher site) having lower mean value those other two densities. These results indicate factors affecting may influence output crassispina, effect should be taken into account when considering use refugia enhance stock.
