Chronic pesticide exposure: Health effects among pesticide sprayers in Southern India.

摘要: Background: Occupational health has never been a priority for policy makers in India, despite 63% of the Indian population being economically productive age group. Objectives: The study was designed to find out morbidity as result long-term exposure pesticides among professional pesticide sprayers rural block Tamil Nadu. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional done Kaniyambadi Vellore district, Nadu, during July October 2013. total 70 66 people engaged other occupations were enrolled into study. participants administered standardized questionnaire apart from measuring pulmonary function peripheral sensations. Venous blood samples collected serum cholinesterase. Results: had higher prevalence breathlessness on activities daily living (odds ratio [OR]: 3.14, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.22–8.07), chronic cough/phlegm (OR: 3.53, CI: 1.09–11.46), symptoms sensory neuropathy 6.66, 2.53–17.51) recurrent abdominal pain 3.05, 1.03–9.01), when compared occupations. Pesticide also significantly lower mean peak expiratory low rates poor cholinesterase levels not statistically different between groups. Conclusion: occupations, further research is needed methods prevent same. Serum may be good marker quantifying sprayers, spraying season.
