摘要: Background Increasing evidence suggests that human papillomavirus (HPV) intratype variants (specific lineages and sublineages) are associated with pathogenesis progression from HPV infection to persistence the development of cervical cancer. Objectives This study aimed verify prevalence distribution types HPV16 in southern Brazil women normal cytology or intraepithelial lesions. Methods typing was determined by L1 gene sequencing. To identify variants, LCR E6 regions were sequenced, characteristic single nucleotide identified. Findings A total 445 samples studied, 355 scrapes 90 biopsies. detected 24% 91% these samples, respectively. The most prevalent observed 16 (cervical, 24%; biopsies, 57%) 58 12%; 12%). Seventy-five percent HPV16-positive classified into lineages, 88% defined as lineage A, 10% D, 2% B. Main conclusions identified a high frequency European North American consistent genetic background population Brazil.
