摘要: Abstract Background/Purpose: Patients and rats with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) have lung heart hypoplasia. Prenatal steroids improve hypoplasia in CDH rats. The current study tests the hypothesis that prenatal dexamethasone could rescue CDH. Methods: Timed pregnant received intragastrically either 100 mg nitrofen or oil on day 9.5, other animals had same treatment with, addition, 0.25 mg/kg intraperitoneally no days 19 20. Fetuses were recovered 21, weight to body ratios, DNA, protein, glycogen measured fresh specimens. Left-to-right ventricular diameter aortic-to-pulmonary ratios after formalin fixation. Results: Wet weight, left-to-right diameter, root which lower fetuses exposed only than their controls, similar those plus corresponding controls. Total was decreased comparison increased receiving theirs. Protein DNA ratio all irrespective of exposure not dexamethasone. Glycogen higher dexamethasone-treated without this treatment. No gross histologic differences seen among groups. Conclusions: Heart is part rescued by as expressed number smaller myocytes content. modify involvement human well. J Pediatr Surg 35:1757-1761.
