摘要: Understanding the structural obstacles people face with regard to health has become an important area of intellectual and practical concern, particularly vulnerable populations in low-income countries. This article documents some experiences a little-documented, population—Haitian agricultural workers, or braceros, on bateyes (primarily Haitian communities) Cibao region Dominican Republic. The qualitative data presented here draw from sample workers (N=370) living six different batey communities. Geographic segregation, access transportation, occupational environmental challenges, negative treatment by doctors other professionals—all expressions violence—emerged as salient impediments well-being. Structural violence, especially through mechanism anti-Haitianism, works both create environments that undermine well-being and, when seeking treatment, can limit opportunities for care.
