摘要: An exfoliatin B-producing strain of Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from two adults with typical staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS). One patient developed desquamation after a local infection the hand, and other exfoliation nosocomially acquired endocarditis. Neither immunocompromised, had evidence renal insufficiency, or manifested potential risk factors for SSSS. Purified toxin, causative organisms, produced Nikolsky sign in neonatal mice. The toxins were shown to be B by biochemical immunologic methods heretofore been described only children Analysis plasmid DNAs both strains revealed 23-megadalton identical restriction endonuclease digestion fragments. isolate belonged phage group II (3B/3C/6/7/47/54/55), whereas groups I III (7/29/52/52A/53/54/80). observation that non-phage exfoliatin-producing S. may produce SSSS indicates need better define diagnostic criteria Immunocompetent remain susceptible some aureus.
