摘要: The main objective of this study was to explore the accuracy Weise’s rule thumb applied an estimation quadratic mean diameter a forest stand. Virtual stands European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) across range structure types were stochastically generated and random sampling simulated. We compared bias stand estimates, employing different ranks measured stems from set 10 trees nearest point. proposed several modifications original based on measurement averaging two centered target rank. In accordance with formulation empirical rule, we recommend application 6th stem in rank corresponding 55% sample percentile distribution, irrespective size degree dispersion. also revealed that appropriate two-measurement method, 4th 8th or 3rd 9th averaged central rank, should be preferred over classic one-measurement estimation. modified versions are characterised by improved (about 25%) without statistically significant costs comparable Weise method.
