摘要: BACKGROUND. The potential of positron emission tomography (PET) with F-18-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) to detect primary tumors after unsuccessful conventional diagnostic workup was assessed in patients metastatic disease from an unknown tumor. METHODS. Twenty-nine various histologic types metastases site were studied workup. received 370 megabecquerels (MBq) (10 millicuries) FDG intravenously and whole body scans made 30 minutes injection onward. RESULTS, All but one known tumor sites visualized. Additional discovered five patients. With FDG-PET the identified 7 (24%): 2 carcinoma nasopharynx, I patient plasmacytoma base tongue, 1 lung, colon, breast carcinoma. did not identify a remaining 22 (76%). Despite negative PET study, lesion later phase 3 these (14%). Survival altered by discovery CONCLUSIONS. A previously turner able be 29 However, clinical relevance information this setting is limited. (C) 1998 American Cancer Society.
