摘要: Obesity, a growing epidemic in the developing world, is associated with numerous comorbidities. This chapter reviews current literature on effects of weight loss obesity and its comorbidities focuses long-term efficacy treatment modalities including behavioral modifications, pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery. Behavioral modifications diet exercise are first-line recommendations from US Preventative Services Task Force improvement body weight, lipid profile, blood pressure, glycemic control; however, compliance sustainability has been an important issue. Currently, there only two medications approved by FDA for loss. While short-term data promising, limited other obesity. For certain subgroups obese patients, surgery yields dramatic sustained as well control comorbidities, recent suggests mortality surgery; given invasiveness potential complications surgery, more studies will be needed to clarify future role treatment.
