摘要: The integration of microbial technologies within the framework water-energy nexus has been taking place for over a century, but these mixed communities are considered hard to deal with ‘black boxes’. Process steering is mainly based on avoiding process failure by monitoring conventional parameters, e.g., pH and temperature, which often leads operation far below intrinsic potential. Mixed do not reflect randomised individual mix, an interacting microbiological entity. Advance obtain effective engineering microbiome achievable, even crucial desired performance products. This can be achieved via top-down or bottom-up approach. strategy reflected in resource management concept that considers community as well-structured network. network monitored means molecular techniques will allow development accurate quick decision tools. In contrast, approach makes use synthetic cultures composed starting from defined axenic cultures, requirements under consideration. success both approaches depends real-time control. Of particular importance necessity identify characterise key players process. These only relate establishment functional conversions, also interaction between partner bacteria. emphasises (screening) structural insights, minimise energy input, maximise product output integrated processes.
