摘要: Background: Consumer awareness of emergency contraception is generally poor. School leavers (schoolies) engage in risky behaviours, including casual sex and alcohol drug consumption. Aim: The aim this study was to explore the an at-risk population schoolies regarding use availability contraception. Methods: An electronic survey self-administered by participants using Wi-Fi-connected iPads at Schoolies Wristband Distribution Centre, Surfers Paradise, on first day Queensland Week, November 2017. Outcomes measured were from a pharmacy, maximum time for effective following unprotected intercourse whether harmful health user. Results: completed 498 valid surveys. Most (83.5%) aged 17 years 50.8% aware that available community pharmacies with prescription 36.7% it without prescription; 18.5% 72- or 120-h effectiveness window 38.0% agreed not harmful. All questions associated considerable uncertainty. Females 1.8- 3.2-fold more likely than males provide appropriate response any statement. Conclusion: Schoolies’ availability, safety low. At-risk may access when indicated due fear harm, uncertainty about its lack knowledge timely non-prescription pharmacies. Targeted education improve current gaps. misnomer ‘morning-after pill’ should be abandoned clinically term ‘emergency contraception’.
