摘要: The establishment of new strains Plasmodium falciparum in continuous culture is described. One line (FCR-2), isolated from an individual who had traveled extensively through South America, was passed initially Aotus trivirgatus monkeys and then cultured into human erythrocytes using the flow-vial technique. A strain P. FMG), shipped by air freight on wet ice Gambia, directly a infection Petri dish-candle jar technique, giving FCR-3. Two other (6252 FSG) were hand carried commercial flight Gambia initiated at same time media, sera, erythrocytes. After 6 wk vitro 6252 became adapted as FCR-4, whereas FSG died out. Normal-looking gametocytes seen all four reported here. Notwithstanding their normal appearance they would not exflagellate vitro, nor infective to Anopheles stephensi mosquitoes via membrane feeding. Production continued for mo, gradually stopped.
