Posttraumatic growth after childbirth: A prospective study

摘要: A growing body of research has examined the potential for positive change following challenging and traumatic events, this is known as posttraumatic growth (PTG). Childbirth a valuable opportunity to extend previous work on PTG it allows role different variables be considered prospectively. The aim study was prospectively examine correlates after birth, including sociodemographic obstetric variables, social support psychological distress, using prospective, longitudinal design. total 125 women completed questionnaires during their third trimester pregnancy 8 weeks birth. At least small degree childbirth reported by 47.9% women; however, average levels were lower than generally in other studies. regression model age, type delivery, stress symptoms general distress birth significantly predicted 32% variance childbirth. strongest predictors operative delivery (β 0.23-0.30) 0.32). These findings emphasise importance assessing pre-event characteristics when considering development event.
