Prevalence and Severity of College Student Bereavement Examined in a Randomly Selected Sample

摘要: The authors used stratified random sampling to assess the prevalence and severity of bereavement in college undergraduates, providing an advance over findings that emerge from convenience methods or anecdotal observations. Prior research using indicated 22% 30% students are within 12 months having experienced death a family member friend. Using ethnically diverse sample private, Midwestern university, 118 randomly selected answered demographic life experience questions whether friend had died last 24 months. Those who reported experiencing such loss also completed PG-13, questionnaire prolonged grief disorder. Results was 39% loss. Two bereaved at (1.7% sample) were classified as A limiting factor this study is homogeneity terms geographic location religious preference. concluded significant portion any given time, confirmed previous estimates rate, noted university assistance may be needed prevent academic decline.
