The selective factors leading to psychiatric referral

摘要: Community surveys identify a much higher proportion of people suffering from “mental disorder” than are found in psychiatric clinics. We wanted to examine the role that social class played selection into treatment and what extent this influence if any, was due an interaction effect with severity illness. A community survey carried out working area London, sampling 800 adults. The Present State Examination used those subjects psychological impairment, while structured interview elicit demographic data. In addition 74 “new” outpatient referrals were selected at random case register existing interviewed using same instruments. Is it concluded own has no significant on service use, father's education directly related though weakly, relationship is unaltered when illness taken account.
