摘要: Glutamate transporters in the CNS are expressed neurons and glia mediate high affinity, electrogenic uptake of extracellular glutamate. Although have highest capacity for glutamate uptake, amount that reaches glial membranes following release rate bind sequester transmitter is not known. We find stimulation Schaffer collateral/commissural fibers hippocampal slices evokes transporter currents CA1 astrocytes activate rapidly, indicating a significant escapes synaptic cleft shortly after release. Transporter outside-out patches from faster kinetics than synaptically elicited currents, suggesting concentration attained at astrocytic lower but remains elevated longer cleft.
