摘要: Impetigo is a common infection in children living remote areas. Immediate plating of impetigo swabs the gold standard for bacterial recovery but rarely feasible regions. Bacterial culture increases our understanding antibiotic resistance and strain diversity, which guides treatment protocols epidemiological monitoring. We investigated three practical alternatives recovering Streptococcus pyogenes Staphylococcus aureus from transported swabs: dry at 4C with desiccant plated within 48 h; inoculated into skim milk tryptone glucose glycerol broth (STGGB), 4C, stored 70C 61 days; ESwabs Amies broth, h. Detection Strep. Staph. simultaneously collected was compared vs STGGB (36 sores) (39 methods. Swabs were 43 (75 sores sampled) community Northern Territory, Australia November 2011. The had participating Skin Sore Trial [Australian Clinical Trials Registry ACTRN12609000858291].Recovery 72 (26/36) 92 (33/36) (36/39) both 69 (25/36) 26/36) 74 (29/39) 85 (33/39).STGGB media provided higher than swabs. These results opportunity to batch store specimens molecular studies support use transport future research.
