摘要: Objective: The H-coils are a new development in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) research, allowing direct of deeper neuronal pathways than does standard TMS. This study assessed possible health risks, and some cognitive emotional effects, two H-coil versions designed to stimulate deep portions the prefrontal cortex, using several frequencies. Methods: Healthy volunteers (n = 32) were randomly assigned one four groups: each designs (H1/H2), figure-8 coil, sham-coil control. Subjects tested pre–post design, during three increasing (single pulses, 10 Hz, 20 Hz) sessions, as well 24–36 h after last stimulation. Results: major finding present is that with novel was tolerated, no adverse physical or neurological outcomes. Computerized tests found deterioration functions, except for transient short-term effect H1-coil on spatial recognition memory first day rTMS (but not following treatment days). On other hand, working transiently improved by H2-coil treatment. Finally, questionnaires showed significant mood alterations, reports ‘detachment’ experienced subjects treated H1-coil. Conclusions: provides additional evidence feasibility safety (H1/H2). Significance: offer safe tool potential both research clinical applications psychiatric disorders associated dysfunctions brain regions. 2007 International Federation Clinical Neurophysiology.
