摘要: OBJECTIVE To describe the investigation of a pseudo-outbreak multiresistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa fecal colonization in hematology unit. DESIGN Retrospective chart review; prospective environmental sampling and observation stool culture technique; genotyping by random arbitrary primer polymorphic DNA polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR). SETTING An academic tertiary-care hospital. PATIENTS Between August October 1994, P resistant to imipenem, ceftazidime, ciprofloxacin, all aminoglycosides was isolated from surveillance cultures 10 neutropenic patients cared for aeruginosa, with an identical susceptibility pattern, three admitted same unit year before "outbreak." Two months outbreak, 12 healthcare workers had been added staff. RESULTS Observation techniques as performed revealed that samples were taken feces toilet. When proper technique used, not 8 previously positive cultures. also two wash basins, toilet flushing water, brush. Genotyping RAPD-PCR showed isolate water strains eight outbreak. CONCLUSIONS This emphasizes importance periodic may be necessary verify techniques.
