摘要: PURPOSE To evaluate residents' skills in performing basic mathematical calculations used for prescribing medications to pediatric patients. METHOD In 2001, a test of ten questions on was given first-, second-, and third-year residents at Miami Children's Hospital Florida. Four additional were included obtain the levels training, specific pediatrics intensive care unit (PICU) experience, whether or not they routinely double-checked doses adjusted them each patient's weight. The anonymous calculators permitted. overall score resident class calculated. RESULTS Twenty-one participated. average mean less than 70%. Second-year had highest scores, although there no significant difference between classes (p =.745) relationship PICU experiences their exam scores =.766). There training =.633) considered weight relative dose prescribed =.869). Seven committed tenfold dosing errors, one 1,000-fold error. CONCLUSION Pediatrics need receive education needed prescribe medications. addition, should be required demonstrate these necessary before are allowed
