摘要: The Mediterranean diet has been proven to be highly effective in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) implicated development those conditions, especially atherosclerosis. present work describes a systematic review current evidence supporting influence and its constituents on this enzyme. Despite differential response some genetic polymorphisms, shown exert protective action Extra virgin olive oil, main source fat, particularly increasing PON1 activity, an that could due low saturated fatty acid intake, oleic enrichment phospholipids high-density lipoproteins favor hepatic mRNA protein expressions induced by minor components oil. Other constituents, such as nuts, fruits vegetables, have modulating activity enzyme, pomegranate compounds being best characterized items. Ongoing research isolated from all these natural products, mainly phenolic carotenoids, indicates them are effective, may enhance use nutraceuticals functional foods capable potentiating activity.
